I took this picture at North Georgia
Premium Outlets. This candy machine not only sells product to people who shopping
there, but also remind people of all popular products’ brand from Mars. I
think, pathos and logos are both used in this advertisement. The bright color yellow
makes people feel passionate and energetic, and the distinguished red and green
Spokescandies, which are most recognized symbols of the
M&M’s brand attracts people’s attention. If this is
the first time you get to know M&M’s, the advertisement impresses you a fun
and brilliant brand. If you have already known them, this advertisement absolutely
strength the slogan” Not your average chocolate” in target audience. Besides, the
vending machine actually makes their product accessible.
They try to sell you a piece of chocolate at once, and make you think about get
another piece of candy all the time.

The big Character Red with tool case and
helmet shown in the picture (B) enhance the brand awareness as wholesome fun, quirky
and practical for. This is the use of logos. And, here comes the pathos. The
blue background makes people feel relaxed and comfortable, so audiences are more
willing to react to the information it conveyed. The red chocolate bean with a “m”
representing M&M’s, associated
with the slogan ” America Better With M”, spreads the belief that M&M’s is responsible
for the society and communities. It boost the relationship between customers
and M&M’s brand. I think it’s kind of use of ethos.
The (C) and (D) commercial
are use pathos and logos to make audience form the idea that M&M’s stands for passion, creativity, fun and youthfulness
that can be enjoyed regardless of age. That will improve the sell definitely.
All these
M&M’s advertisements are use logos and pathos to leave consumers a certain
impression. As the Spokescandies is so popular that the
use of ethos is hard to find.
Reebok by Tina
It is a picture which is taken on a
shopper's guide of outlet.From the picture, we can learn that it's an
advertisement of Reebok's shoe. It shows that people can run with ease and
enjoy sports with the shoes. By comparing the picture with ads from the company,
I can find that they have the similarity of showing comfort of the shoes.
Looking at the second picture, the man holding a shoe on his hand seems to keep
a secret of the shoe, which may arouse people's curiosity and attract them to
dig up the secret. From the man's expression, we can see his smile and get to
know his feeling with the shoes. The contrast of color lays stress on the
shoes's feature. This advertisement is great because it can cause people's
attention and impress people deeply. Looking at the third one, the impression
which the picture leaves on us is a group of people who are full of energy. It
conveys the idea that we can share the happiness of doing sports with each
other and we should be united. The characteristic of their advertising strategies
is focusing on people's feeling with the shoes and arousing people's enthusiasm
of doing sports.The expression on people's face shows that they feel energetic
and comfortable and enjoy doing sports with the shoes, which enables people to
have faith in their product and have empathy in emotion. From perspective of
logos, I think the picture shows fine workmanship of the product. Objectively,
this is another reason which enables people to believe in the product's
quality. The ads aim at people who love doing sports to spur them to buy the
shoes. We may see the ads from magazines and shopper's guide. The ads covey the
concept of sports, that is "live with fire".
FedEx by Peter
When I go to the
Publix near the school, I find the advertisement with a huge logo about Federal
Express on its vehicle.
And I found some
other advertisements from the internet such as:
From these
advertisements, We can find the logo of Federal Express and it must be very
obvious. In the first one, we can see a huge logo and the phone number and the
website on it, which will let people know more about it. In the second one, we
can see the sender and the receiver’s hands and the logo of Federal Express is
in the middle, which shows that FDX can send packages very fast. The forth
advertisement is used to satire its competitor UPS. And the last one shows the
postman of FDX will protect the packages very well.
In my view, Federal
Express uses advertisements to show their customers that FDX is the best one in
the world. We can see their logo in every advertisement. The second one shows
FDX can send it very fast, the third one shows that it can send the package to
all around the world as easy as you sent something to your neighbor. And the
forth one make the audience thought that the other express companies are not a patch
on FDX and the last one shows the occupation accomplishment of the FDX’s
employees. They put their logo on the package, make it clearly and obviously, which
made customers trust them.
In my view, the
first advertisement is printed on the track of Federal Express. When it sends
packages, many people who walking on the road will see it and when they need to
send something, they may call to mind the logo or website of FDX and use it.
The other 4 may be printed on the wall in the apartment or beside the bridge, or
any other location on the road. They will make everyone who may send packages
know that they can choose FDX to do it.
P&G by Wang
The advertisement I chose to analyze was
found in a magazine. It is an advertisement for P&G. The picture is shown
as following.
In this advertisement, we can see that the
motivation of P&G is not to advertise for one single product since P&G
is a very big company with various products. Instead, they want to give us an
impression of the whole company. And the word “us” means everyone who read the
magazine. We can find two products in this poster yet and I think their
intention is to give examples to readers who have seen the P&G for the
first time for letting they know what the P&G do. But to most of us, we
already have the concept that this company products include personal care,
cleaning agents etc. Even to those who have seen P&G for the first time, a happy
and harmony feelings will generate as the seen the advertisement. To enhance
the feelings, a slogan which reads as “Touching lives, improving life.” is
printed on the picture. Just as all other advertisements, from this one we
cannot see the fact that we have to pay for everything we buy. Also we cannot
find any facts in this poster.
Moreover, I have found some other
advertisement for P&G on the internet. The following are some P&G on
campus posters.
On the first sight
we can see the person in the picture, the big word “PERSON”, and the logo of
the company “P&G”. Because of the people both in the big and small
pictures, the poster successed in impressing us with a idea that P&G is a
international company whith employees all over the world. I guss it is because
of the severe racial descrimination which has existed in history that this man
with a different skin color was chose to be the main character. Since this
company want people to think that in this company there is no such problem. Besides,
the slogan “we hire the person, not the position” let us believe that this
company value people more than position though it does not give any proof.
This poster is a public service
advertisement. The old style desks in the classroom and the shabby wall in the
picture make us feel sympathy for children in these areas. And the different
colors of the sentences make it easier to be seen. Moreover, the logo in this
picture apply kind of contrast. In the first sentence, we all find it is hard
to imagine a day without class. But the second sentence tell us that this is
not a hard thing in china. Through this way, this advertisement give us a more
impressive image.
As the first on campus posters, this poster
mainly include a person and some slogans. By show us a young lady in working
place, it give us an impression of “brand new”. Through all the brands produced
by P&G printed below, we know that this is a “real-world projects”. Also,
choose a lady to be the main character will deliver the information to us that
women are equal, at least not less important, to men. But we cannot find
anything to prove that just in this poster.
From all these posters we can find that
they are of the same style, especially the four on campus posters. In my
opinion, apply the same style for all the posters have some advantages and one
is that when people see an advertisement in this style they will think of
P&G, so this can help people remember P&G. But on the other side, the
same style set constrains to the posters and make them a little bit dull.
